Tips for parent new to homeschooling

Homeschooling is tricky and most parents are not sure what they are getting into until they have put both their feet in the water. Here are some things every parent who is embarking in the journey of homeschooling should know: 

1. Homeschooling is a lot more then academics
Homeschooling entails a lot more than merely academics. It is an opportunity to provide your children with unique learning in various spheres such as, encouraging the child to learn music, martial arts, swimming, and the like. There is unquestionably no need to recreate a schoolroom. Instead, give children the time to explore their interests, and help them in finding opportunities to experience real life.

2. Homeschooling has different styles
You can pick any style of learning that best suits your child. Understanding the way your children will best remember things, learn, concentrate and process information goes a long way in creating an enviroment that fosters learning. Observe your child and you will gradually understand their learning style. 

3. Homeschooling should offer a world view
It is extremely important for a parent to expose the child to a worldview. Once children are old enough to realize the nature of the world, you can help them in applying these truths to books, movies, music and other areas of culture. Teaching growing children how to be observant of modern culture is important if you want them to know how to take ownership of their choices of entertainment.

4. Never compare
A lot of parents fall prey to comparing themselves with fellow homeschooling parents. It is very easy to believe that other people have no problems with discipline, no learning problems, or family related issues. However, this is simply not true. Each year you will go through some distraction. Expect it and take it in your stride. 

5. Homeschooling children does not mean you will have to live with a cluttered house
While there will be a little mess if you have children. The toys, the crumbs and books can make the house look shabby. Set up a time every day where you know the house can be cleaned and let it go for the rest of the day.  Enjoy your little ones. You will have plenty of time to relish a clean house when they have flown away for college.

Just by understating these simple things you are sure to make your homeschooling journey even more fulfilling.
