Get the right homeschooling support

A very important element that makes homeschooling easy is homeschooling support. Below are a few ways in which you can get the information and support your family needs for thriving:

Support groups for homeschooling families - such support groups comprise of families who meet on a regular basis to provide social interaction and encouragement. These groups can be informal or formal depending on their purpose and scope. Certain groups restrict membership to just those families that make use of a specific curriculum. Other groups are open to families who teach their little ones at home.

Homeschool Coops – when it comes to homeschooling cooperatives, families come together and assist in teaching each other's children. Paid tutors or parents can teach coop courses. If you choose a co-op, make it a point that you understand the commitment level for both students and parents.

Message boards - Homeschool forums or message boards are the best for receiving support without the need to leave the comfort of your home. While some forums related to homeschooling focus on particular curricula and teaching methods, others remain open to all homeschooling families. Such online communities are great for encouragement and information.

Homeschool Conventions - Homeschooling conferences are excellent for meeting and learning from other homeschooling families. A lot of such events offer workshops that provide advice and information about homeschooling techniques and homeschool curriculum. Such conventions also host home school curriculum fairs where you can view and ask questions about home school materials. When preparing for a homeschool convention, make sure you are aware of the rules of the event.

Community Groups - a lot of organizations and businesses host activities or classes that offer learning opportunities for students. One can check with athletic facilities, community centers, museums, libraries, churches, and the like to see if they provide programs that can help your children in any way.

Always lookout for the support opportunities around you. It is not always easy to homeschool, and such support can assist you in staying abreast at times when things get rough!

Homeschooling may seem tough but if you have the right support with you, it will be fun and easy. Make sure you join various support groups and stay open to seeking help from fellow homeschooling families. Also, be internet savvy and join as many homeschool forums as you can. This will certainly help you stay abreast with the latest homeschooling curriculums and other events.

How to raise a child who is body-positive?

Parents tend to play a huge role in shaping how their children feel and think about their bodies. As a homeschooling parent, encouraging a child’s body image early on, starting from preschool, can make a huge difference in how children feel about themselves while growing up. Here are a few different ways to immunize your little ones against poor body image. Avoid stereotypes - starting from when your children are in preschool, show them movies, TV shows, and other media that display healthy body sizes and steer clear from stereotypical or sexualized story lines. Whenever possible, make sure you use gender-diverse or gender-neutral pronouns to reference animals, characters, and so on. For instance, not every kitten is a "she" and not every dinosaur a “He.”    Challenge assumptions- Ask your children what they think of slim or heavyset toys or characters in movies and TV. Why is it so important to listen to your children when homeschooling

Did you know that by listening to your children you can help them learn? As homeschooling parents, our motivation is to contribute to the education of our children. However, we sometimes feel frustrated by our incapability to explain or teach something. The truth is, we don’t always have to have the answers. At times listening is the best course of action. In a study, researchers asked children to explain a solution to a particular problem to themselves, their moms, or to just repeat the answer. The outcome showed that explaining the answer improved the child’s ability to resolve both difficult and similar problems over time. By merely listening, parents affect their child’s retention and understanding of the solution and problem significantly. The art of engaging a child in a topic at the right time, with a probing question, and profound listening skills is what is needed. Asking your little one to share their most interesting experience of the day is a good question ...
